Si Yu, a native Chinese violist, holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Central Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music degree from Carnegie Mellon University where she was admitted as a full scholarship student under the mentorship of Mr. David Harding.
Ms. Yu has worked with such distinguished artists as Yo-Yo Ma, Micheal Tilson Thomas, Christoph Eschenbach, Manfred Honeck, Meryl Streep and Lang Lang. Additionally, she has had the privilege to study chamber music with members of Alban Berg, Tokyo, Brentano and Juilliard String Quartet.
Ms. Yu has performed as soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician throughout her native country, as well as the United States, Canada, Germany, Denmark, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Qatar. Ms. Yu has appeared at the Pacific Music Festival, Banff Centre, Beethoven Institute, Heifetz Institute and the Schleswig- Holstein Musik Festival in Germany. From 2009 to 2013 Ms. Yu served as principal violist of the China Youth Orchestra. She has also been the principal of the Schleswig- Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra as well as associate principal violist of the Asian Youth Orchestra and the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra in Japan.
Ms. Yu was a member of the Matisse string quartet who won the Pittsburgh Concert Society major audition in 2014. She is currently a member of the Kassia Ensemble and Erie Philharmonic.
